Alicia Miner – Biography


Born in Monterrey, Mexico. Alicia Miner resides since 1987 in McAllen Texas. She initiated her art instruction in 1979 at the “Instituto Potosino de Bellas Artes (I.P.B.A.) in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Upon majoring in Interior and Graphical Design in San Luis Potosí,, she studied under the direction of renowned professors, different techniques of art expression including Xylography, paste, engraving, woodcut and watercolor. Later on, she studied copper enamel as well as tempera and encaustic painting under Master Luis Nishizawa.

In 1989 she founded and experimental workshop called “Taller Experimental Independiente” in Aguascalientes, Mexico and in November 1990 she founded and enamel workshop called “Taller Independiente de Esmalte” also in Aguascalientes Mexico. Since then she has continued working and experimenting by herself with this technique.

Alicia was awarded three Honorary Mentions at the Arts Competitions, “Certamen 20 de Noviembre” in 1979, 1982 and 1983, organized by the Government of San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

She has participated in numerous group exhibitions and itinerant group exhibitions in various places throughout her career. She has had solo exhibitions in the following cities in Mexico: Reynosa, Tamps., Monterrey, N.L., Zacatecas, Zac., Cd. Victoria, Tamps., San Luis Potosí, SLP., Mexico City, Mexico and also in the United States in Edinburg, TX. Worth mentioning are the critically acclaimed exhibitions “El Quehacer Natural” held at the Constituyentes Gallery of the Presidency of the Republic of Mexico in Mexico City, in October 1988 and “Linea y Forma” at the “Centro Cultural Juan Rulfo” also in Mexico City in June 1994.

In September 1990, Alicia Miner had a group exhibition at the Museum of “La Commanderie D’Unet in Bordeaux, France with the exhibition titled “Fils de Dieu et Créateurs”, and in November of the same year at the International Exhibition “L’Aura des Créateurs” at the “Chapelle de la Sorbonne” in Paris, France, where she was awarded the “Grand Prix de Paris” and “Grand Prix D’Aquitaine”, by the International Art Connection.

In June 1997, she was invited to participate in the International Art Show “Grand Pix de Japon et Biennale International de Sapporo” in Sapporo Japan, where she received the award “Creativity and Artist of the Year” for Mexico.
